ABS in Practice - Benefits to rise worldwide resources for biodiversity conservation

The Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing entered into force in 2014 and aims, inter alia, at rising the worldwide resources for biodiversity conservation and at implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Existing ABS-agreements were checked for best-practice examples for all elements from the source to the final product in order to develop a best-practice compendium for the implementation of ABS-regulations. The results were fed into the CBD discussion process on the Nagoya Protocol. A handout “The contribution of Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) to the Sustainable Development Goals” presents first results.
