Workshop on the Ramsar Convention Conservation of wetlands in Germany and a wider perspective

Background

The workshop was held to present, analyze and discuss the results of the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Ramsar Convention (COP 10 in 2008 in South Korea) relevant for Germany, and to prepare for COP 11 early in 2012 in Romania. This included specific requests for the further development of the Convention (e.g. harmonizing reporting, development of management plans, importance of wetland conservation for biodiversity and climate issues). Best practice examples from other European countries were meant to widen the perspective.

Target group

The workshop addressed representatives of regional institutions and administrations responsible for conservation of Ramsar areas and proposing of new areas as well as interested individuals from conservation NGOs.
The results were published in the publication series of the Federal Agency (Volume 305, 2011, RAMSAR Feuchtgebieteschutz in Deutschland, in German only). There is a free download of the publication series.
